"Ending Cervical Cancer in our Lifetime"
As an association, NLGA is engaged in a multi-state public
health education campaign regarding cervical cancer. The first
phase covered eleven states. It ran August 2006 - January 2007.
"Ending Cervical Cancer in our Lifetime" aims to directly
educate constituents on the nearly entirely preventable nature
of cervical cancer. The first eleven states included Colorado,
Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New
Mexico, Pennsylvania, Utah and Virginia. In each state, the
lieutenant governor seeks to distribute 8,000 educational
brochures and 8,000 awareness bracelets.
The second phase of the campaign is being developed and hopes to
launch in March 2007. This phase will maintain the goals and
methods of the campaign and seeks to expand to fifteen or more
new states.
This campaign is funded by two separate independent public
policy grants from Merck & Co., Inc., a corporate contribution
from GlaxoSmithKline and by the National Lieutenant Governors
Association.
