COLLABERATION TO CREATE THE
NATIONAL COLLECTION ON THE OFFICE OF LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
Whereas, the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) mission in its Articles includes “...to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of the Office of Lieutenant Governor...” and
Whereas, NLGA meets this mission, in part, by striving to act as a repository of information on the office of lieutenant governor, and
Whereas, NLGA further strives to meet this mission by answering questions posed to the office and by sharing information stored there, and
Whereas, the effort to both collect and disseminate information on the office of lieutenant governor will be enhanced through a formal collaboration with an entity which specializes in and is dedicated to the free exchange of information and ideas, and
Whereas, the Kenton County Public Library system of Kentucky is such an entity, and
Whereas, the library system received the highest score of any Kentucky library ranked by Hennen's American Public Library Ratings in 2008, and
Whereas, the library’s Executive Director was selected by the Library of Congress in April of 2009 as one of only three librarians nationwide to design a national historical exhibit, and
Whereas, a national collection on the office of lieutenant governor will enhance NLGA’s ability to meet its mission, and
Whereas, said collection will be a valuable asset to NLGA in assisting academics studying the office; candidates and officeholders seeking to further explore the office from a national scope; and media in covering the office of lieutenant governor, and
Whereas, there is no financial risk to NLGA in this venture,
Therefore be it resolved, that the NLGA hereby enters a collaboration with the Kenton County Public Library to create and promote the nation’s only National Collection on the Office of Lieutenant Governor, and
Be it further resolved that NLGA shall make all materials it owns or has produced on the office of lieutenant governor available to the Kenton County Public Library, and
Be it further resolved that NLGA shall assist in obtaining any copyright clearances as needed for other valuable information, and
Be it further resolved that NLGA shall be committed to making the collection available to as many constituents across the nation as possible, possibly in part through digitization, and
Be it finally resolved that NLGA will seek to promote the collection in a way which also leads to the creation and contribution of new items to said study and collection.
