DRAFT:  Dates, and start and end times on each day are solid, Free Time is Solid and will NOT change.  The length of sessions or topics MAY change.

As with all NLGA Annual Meetings, this meeting is an invitation only meeting. The meeting is open to current NLGA members and staffs and their spouses and children, Conference Associate Partners (CAPs) and their spouses and children, and to meeting sponsors. For the 50th Anniversary, NLGA invites past NLGA Chairs (only) to join the Gala portion of the meeting (only) from Friday at Noon through Friday at midnight, former chairs may pick up namebadges (for entry) beginning at 11:00 am Friday.  For the information on past NLGA Chairs, click the link on the meeting page.  Sitting Governors and Congress people who are former NLGA members are invited to sit on the Leaders Panels and/or attend the Gala.  Press registration and Security registration is required and defined on the main meeting web page.

Registration: Anyone who plans to enter any one session, bus ride, meal or event must register. Registration generates a badge to be picked up on site which must be displayed at all times. This is enforced by security without exception. Every person will be asked to show photo ID and pick up only their own badge. Badges will be available only during registration hours at the registration desk. Eligible registrants are defined above, below, and on the registration page. NLGA may deny any registration. The registration deadline is 5:00 PM EST July 6th, 2012. Anyone attempting to register after that will likely be denied registration and/or admittance and, if accommodated will experience delay and differences in or incomplete materials.  Do Not rely on any on-site registration or substitution availability.

PRESS: Must pre-register and are complimentary for sessions which are not private, closed, or otherwise limited (limitation may be on agenda or may occur on site). Press will be asked to show press credentials, photo ID, and provide a business card at registration. Press must display provided badge at all times following instructions and working from designated areas. Press are not eligible for meal room access or for meals.  All evening events, off-site events, and private sessions are closed to press.

SECURITY: State Patrol officers (only) may attend the meeting for no registration fee with their principal but NLGA asks you complete online registration so you receive announcements. State Patrol officers must wear the universally distributed NGSA ID Pin or state pin. Offices/officers should call the hotel directly to request accommodations adjacent a principal and NLGA cannot guarantee this.

NLGA:  Creative Economy Site Visit & Arts Award

Chicago Architecture Foundation architectural boat tour (Rain or shine event) (CONFIRMED)

Not open to press.

As the economy sends conflicting signals regarding recovery, lieutenant governors examine a changing and growing creative economy.  The 2012 Creative Industries Report by Americans for the Arts based on Dun & Bradstreet data shows more than 904,500 businesses nationally are arts centric and employ more than 3.3-million people.  The creative economy includes groups often not thought of like video game programmers.  A robust creative economy contributes to economic growth by attracting a dynamic workforce, in part through more livable communities, and by serving as a destination for cultural tourism, as demonstrated on this site visit tour by boat on the Chicago River with the Chicago Architecture Foundation presenting 50 renowned buildings.

Presentation:  Public Leadership in the Arts award

NLGA Closing Event:

‘Black Tie  & Blue Jeans’ 50th Anniversary Gala
A group of lieutenant governors met here in Chicago in 1962 and founded the National Lieutenant Governors Association as an association dedicated exclusively to the office of lieutenant governor.  In the fifty years since, lieutenant governors have worked in a spirit of bipartisanship rarely found in higher elected office today.  Holding a vast array of formal and informal duties, the office of lieutenant governor is arguably the most diverse office in state and territorial government.  In that spirit of collaborative camaraderie, attendees will celebrate the gala by choosing their own celebratory attire – formal informal, or any combination in between.

·         Recognize sitting Governors and Congress people who are former lieutenant governors

·         Recognize founding CAPs members still with the CAPs program
